Bihu Dance - AssamAssam is undoubtedly a paradise for tourists. Its history dates back to 2500 B.C. A rich variety of natural beauty and cultural treasures are its heritage. Assam has a large number of tribes with varied traditions, cultures, dances and dresses. Assamese literature is as old as its history with the ancient treatise on the capture of elephants, the "Hastirvidyarnabha".

The variety of Assam's wildlife has always been an attraction for tourists. Rafting and angling are also available for adventure lovers at some of the destinations.

Weaving is the national craft of the Assamese and women of almost every household take pride in their possession of a handloom on which silk (pat), muga and eri designs are made. The Lovely golden apple colour of muga, the creamy eri and glossy mulberry textiles are considered prized articles by customers here and abroad.

Special festivals of the Assamese are the three Bihus, the Rangali Bihu (April) which marks the advent of the cropping season, the Bhogali Bihu or the harvest festival (January) & the Kongali (October) or the Bihu of the lean period.
