Day 01
Upon arrival at LGB (Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi) International Airport,
Guwahati, you will be welcomed by our tour manager. If time permits, drive
upto Nilachal Hill to see the holy Maa Kamakhya Temple and city skyline from
top of the hill. Later transfer to the cruise vessel. Lunch on board. The
vessel leaves Guwahati at 14:30 hours and quickly crosses the cityscape. The
vessel moors in a little sand island in the late afternoon near Kuruwa. You
get to know the crew and the layout of the vessel in the evening. Our
English speaking Tour Escort will brief you about the journey.
Day 02
Early morning, we start cruising upstream, battling against strong currents
near Ganesh Pahar. After a few more hours sailing we cross Mayong, the
village known for its ancient forms of black magic. We moor upstream Mayong.
Lunch on board and prepare ourselves for a visit to the village.
We take a small walk in the village and experience the culture & life style
of the people living there. We visit the Museum where we can still see the
age old manuscripts of Black Magic. If luck favours, we may also have a
small interaction with the King of Mayong. We return to our vessel by
evening.
Day 03
Rising early morning we take a boat ride to visit Pobitora Wildlife
Sanctuary for an Elephant Safari. We return to our vessel by noon. Lunch on
board as we start sailing. Enjoy a relaxed afternoon as we reach our next
destination Sualkuchi, also known as the Manchester of the East. Sualkuchi
is a small Silk weaving town situated at the north bank of the Brahmaputra.
Take a small walk in the local market where we can buy the famous Assam Silk
in its different dress forms.
Return to the vessel and prepare for a barbecue dinner and cultural dance
show performed by the local artists.
Day 04
Today we go for a day long land excursion. We visit a silk weaving workshop
in Sualkuchi. We shall see the whole process of silk manufacture, from
cocoon to spinning to dyeing and finally to hand weaving into exquisite
Mekhelas and dress lengths. Then we drive to Hajo, a place sacred to Hindus,
Muslims and Buddhists. We visit a Muslim Shrine with extensive hilltop views
over the surrounding rural landscape as well as a Hindu Temple and its
sacred tank full of carp, catfish and turtles. Continuing on, we drive over
the famous ‘Saraighat’ bridge across the river Brahmaputra to enter the main
city of Guwahati.
Drive up Nilachal Hill to the holy Maa Kamakhya Temple and see the city
skyline from top of the hill. We drive down and visit Commonwealth War
Graves, the Museum, and take a little walk in the market place before
returning to the vessel.
Day 05
Drive to the Airport for onward journey.
