Day 01: Guwahati Airport-Shillong (125 km/ 04 hr):
Our Tour Manager will
welcome you upon your arrival at Guwahati
airport. Later transfer to Shillong, the
capital of Meghalaya. Overnight at hotel Pegasus Crown or similar. After breakfast excursion to Cherrapunjee, famed for receiving the highest rainfall in the world. Cherrapunjee posseses some exotic waterfalls & impressive limestone caves. At Cherrapunjee we visit Nohkalikai Falls, Mawsmai Falls, Bangladesh border and Mawsmai cave which is one of the 100 odd limestone caves in Meghalaya. Later back to Shillong. Enroute visit Elephant falls and Shillong Peak around Shillong. Overnight at hotel Pegasus Crown or similar.
Day 03: Shillong: Afterwards, we take a drive to Mawphlang, the site of the Khasi Sacred Forest. This particular grove at Mawphlang houses some unique and fascinating plant life which has attracted the attention of eminent international botanists and naturalists. These isolated pockets are untouched due to religious beliefs and myths attributed to them. Many of the endangered species of the state are presently confined to these pockets only.
Later we come back to Shillong & after
lunch, gear up to visit some places of interest in the city- the placid
Ward’s Lake, the local market etc.
Day 04: Shillong-Nameri National Park (
316 km/ 06hr):
Later in the afternoon transfer to Kaziranga
National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the home to the endangered
one horned rhinoceros (2048 rhinos as
per 2009 census). Besides, the park
has several species of mammals and birds. The park has 70% of the world
population of the Asiatic Water Buffalos & the Eastern Swamp Deer. The
park was brought under the Project Tiger recently for special efforts to
protect its near 100 Royal Bengal Tigers. Amongst birds, the park has 25
globally threatened bird species.
Day 06: Kaziranga National Park: After breakfast transfer to Sangsua / Gatoonga Tea Estate near Jorhat. On arrival check in at the heritage garden manager’s bungalow. The rest of the day is free at leisure enjoying the tea garden. If tea plucking and the factory works go on we shall take the assistance of a garden executive to explain us the method of tea plucking or tea processing. Unlike many tea producing nations in the world, the Tea Gardens in Assam are fairly big in size covering several hectares. Assam tea is known for its Black Teas-Orthodox and C.T.C.
Day 08: Sangsua/Gatoonga-Majuli Island (a
Short drive & 90 min. Ferry)-Sangsua/Gatoonga: We shall visit some monasteries & interact with the celibate monks. In the late afternoon we return the same way to Sangsua/Gatoonga tea estate.
Day 09: Sangsua/Gatoonga-Guwahati
(Approx.290 km/ 6 hr):
Full day sight seeing in & around Guwahati
including Sualkuchi silk village, Madan Kamdev archaeological ruins,
Kamakhya temple etc. Overnight at hotel Nakshatra/ Pragati Manor or
similar.
