(A 16 day visit covering Assam, Remote Areas of Arunachal and Meghalaya visiting Tribes, Monuments, National Park and
Natural Treasures.)
Day
01: Guwahati-Tezpur (04 Hrs)
Arrive
at Guwahati airport. Drive straight to Tezpur and overnight at
hotel Luit or Government Tourist Lodge.
Day
02: Tezpur-Ziro (07 hrs)
After
breakfast drive to Ziro in Arunachal Pradesh. Enroute we’ll
visit the villages of the Nishi tribe. At 5754 ft., Ziro is
almost a level valley enclosed on all sides by pine-clad low
stooping hills. This area is the home of the Apatani tribe and
is famous for paddy cum fish culture.
The
traditional Apatanis wear their hair in a topknot with cane
helmets & a brass skewer struck through their ears. It is the
ambition of each woman to wear the largest possible nose plug
which are made of bamboo/wood. Overnight at Ziro Valley
Resort.
Day
03: Ziro
Full
day excursion to the interior of Arunachal Pradesh. Using Ziro
as a base the entire day is spent visiting the Hong village,
one of the largest tribal villages in Asia and other Apatani
villages like Bulla village.

04: Ziro—Daporijo (05-06 hrs)
Departing early after breakfast we descend from the Ziro
Plateau & drive along the Kamla river valley through dense
jungle country, passing picturesque villages of the Nishi &
the Hill Miri tribes. Enroute we will visit TAGIN & HILLMIRI
TRIBES.
Daporijo is a fairly large village on the banks of the
Subansiri river. It is the junction of three important tribes:
Hill Miri, Tagin & Adi-Gallongs. Overnight at I.B or Village
Lodge.

05: Daporijo
Full
day excursion to the interior of Arunachal Pradesh. A 16 km.
drive followed by 02 hrs. trek brings us to Tajipara, an
Adi-Gallong tribal village. Adis are very accomplished weavers
of cane goods. The excellence of their cane work shines
supreme in the famous cane suspension bridges of Arunachal
Pradesh.

06: Daporijo—Along –(05 hrs)
After
breakfast we drive to Along in the Siang River Valley. It is
the territory of the Adi tribe, one of the largest tribes in
Arunachal, with lots of sub groups. On the way to Along, we
pass through many small villages (Kabu, Kayin etc.) that we
can stop & visit. Overnight at Holiday Cottage.

07: Along
Full
day excursion to the interior part of Arunachal Pradesh. We
follow the river Siang in the northern direction & visit the
Bori & Pailibo sub groups of the Adi tribe. After having
packed lunch at the Bori-Adis village we will hike back to the
road head & drive back to Along.
Day
08: - Along-Pasighat-( 03 hrs)
After
break fast drive to Pasighat. Enroute we visit Minyong-Adi
villages. Pasighat, located on the right bank of the river
Siang, is the oldest town in Arunachal. Overnight at Hotel
Aani or similar.

09: Pasighat-Aohali-Pasighat:
After
breakfast leave for Aohali to see Idu Mishimi tribal villages.
Overnight at Pasighat.
Day
10: Pasighat-Dibrugarh-Sivasagar (05 hrs ferry & 1 ½ hrs
drive)
After
05 hrs of ferry ride, reach Dibrugarh in Assam & lunch. Later,
drive to Sivasagar and check in at hotel Shiva Palace or
similar. In the late afternoon visit Shiva Dol. which is
believed to be the highest Shiva Temple in India with its
height of 104 ft. By the side of this temple is the massive
Sivasagar tank covering an area of 257 acres of land out of
which 129 acres are filled with crystal clear water. Sivasagar,
the seat of the Ahom kingdom who ruled Assam for 06 centuries
till Assam fell in the hands of the British, is dotted with
monuments reflecting a powerful empire.
Day
11: - Sivasagar---Kaziranga ( 03 hrs)
After
breakfast visit some more monuments. These will include Rang
Ghar, the oldest amphitheatre in Asia; Kareng Ghar with four
stories above and three below the ground and two underground
tunnels of 03 km & 16 km in length; Joysagar tank, possibly
the biggest man- made tank in the world with an area of 318
acres of land out of which 155 acres is filled with crystal
clear water. Later, transfer to Kaziranga National Park in
central Assam.
Kaziranga NP is a World Heritage Site & also the first NP in
Assam covering an area of 860 sq.km. It is the home of the
one-horned rhino. Apart from the rhino the park abounds in
elephants, buffalos, boars, tigers, leopards, 04 species of
deer etc. Overnight at Bonhabi Resort or Government Tourist
Lodges.
Day12: - Kaziranga
We
start our Jungle Safari on elephant back early in the morning
in the central range of the park, for one hour. Afterwards,
back to hotel and breakfast. After breakfast we take you deep
inside the central range of the park in a jeep. Then, we come
back for lunch and rest for two hours. Again in the afternoon
,we take up another jeep safari this time covering the western
range of the park.
Day
13: - Kaziranga—Barapani Lake (Shillong): 06 hrs.
After
breakfast, we drive to Barapani Lake, half an hr drive from
Shillong in the state of Meghalaya. Barapani is a huge
artificial lake. We check in at Orchid Lake Resort.
Day
14: - Barapani Lake—Cherrapunjee: 02 hrs.
After
breakfast we drive to Cherrapunjee, famed for receiving the
highest rainfall in the world. Cherrapunjee posseses some
exotic waterfalls & impressive limestone caves. En route visit
Smit village which is head of the traditional Kingship of
Khyriem of the Khasi tribe. At Cherrapunjee we visit
Nohkalikai Falls, Mawsmai Falls,& Mawsmai cave which is one of
the 100 odd limestone caves in Meghalaya. Later, we check in at
Cherrapunjee Resort/ Ken & Twill (Saimika Park).
Day15: - Cherrapunjee—Shillong-(90 minutes)
After
breakfast drive back to Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya &
the most popular hill station in North East India. Enroute
visit the exotic Elephant Falls and Shillong Peak.
We
check in at
Ken & Twill Guest House/ Rosa Villa
Guest House.
Afterwards, take a 30 min. drive to Mawphlang, site of Khasi Sacred Forest. Here we
will have a Khasi person leading a walk into the Forest &
explaining some of the Khasi traditions and folklore, as well as
the significance of the sacrificial sites and the significance
of the sacred forest to Khasi society. We come back to
Shillong and after lunch, gear up to visit some places of
interest in the city- the placid Ward’s Lake, Golf links, All
Saints Cathedral and St. Paul’s Cathedral, one of the region’s
oldest places of Christian worship and the local market.
Day
16: - Shillong—Guwahati—(03 hrs)
After
breakfast drive to Guwahati. Lunch at Guwahati & after lunch
drive to airport to catch your flight. Enroute visit Assam
Govt. Emporium if you’re interested to take home some mementos
from Assam’s famous handloom and handicraft collection.
