(This is a 10 day tour covering 04 heritage bungalows
belonging to the colonial period in Assam tea gardens of
Mancotta, Gatoonga or Sangsua,an Assamese village Jalukonibari
and Shillong,the capital of Meghalaya.Moreover, there is the
coverage of tourist spots around our target areas.)
Day 01: Dibrugarh-Mancotta Tea
Estate:
Our tour manager will
welcome you on your arrival at Dibrugarh airport. Later
transfer to Mancotta Bungalow located at Mancotta Tea Estate
on the outskirt of Dibrugarh.
Mancotta Bungalow is a
136 year old Chang (raised platform) Bungalow.
Day 02:
Mancotta-Namphake village (90 minutes)-Mancotta:
Early morning visit the
gardens & the factory. Later excursion to Namphake village.
Namphake village is a small village of the Tai(Thai) Phakial
tribe. They are Buddhists of the Hinayana sect.
Day
03:Mancotta-Thengal(Jorhat)3.30 hr:
Transfer to Thengal
Mansion located at Jalukonibari village near Jorhat. This 72
year old mansion has the period furniture and decor.
Enroute we will visit
Sivasagar for the wonders of Assam's royal past belonging to
the Ahoms who ruled Assam for 6 centuries before the advent of
the British. The Ahoms are a Tai (Thai) group originating from
the Yunan Province of China. They accepted Hinduism and
created a greater Assamese society. The Ahoms successfully
protected their kingdom from the invading Muslims on several
occasions. The battle of Saraighat at Guwahati is the all time
great win against the mighty Mughal forces sent from Delhi by
Mughal emperor Aurangzeb under the command of Rajput King of
Amber Raja Ram Singh who took along the deadly Rajput cavalry.
This battle was fought on both land and the Brahmaputra river
and it is a turning point for Assam and its history.The
intelligence and military might of Ahom commander Lachit
Barphukan is still a source of inspiration.
Day
04:Thengal-Majuli-Sangsua or Gatoonga Tea Garden Bungalow:
We shall take a day
long excursion to Majuli, the largest river island in the
world amidst the mighty river Brahmaputra. Majuli is a
cultural centre of the Vaisnavite sect of Hinduism of the
great Assamese socio-religious reformer Sankardeva. We will
visit some Satras (monasteries) of this sect.
From Majuli we shall
transfer to either Sangsua or Gatoonga tea estates to check in
at the heritage garden bungalow. Both the bungalows are 70
year old.
Day 05: Sangsua or
Gatoonga-Kaziranga(02 hr):
Half day at leisure in
the garden bungalow. After lunch we shall move out of the
bungalow and visit Tocklai Tea Research centre, the oldest of
its kind in the world. Afterwards, we transfer ourselves to
World Heritage Site Kaziranga National Park, the home of the
One horned rhinos. Overnight at Wild Grass Resort/Bonhabi
Resort/Aranya Lodge.
Day 06:Kaziranga:
Full day at Kaziranga
National Park. We shall start early in the morning with an
elephant safari for one hour followed by jeep safari in the
central range of the park. Then we come back to our hotel for
lunch. Later in the afternoon we take up another jeep safari
this time covering a different range, the Western range of the
Park.
Day
07:Kaziranga-Shillong (07 hr):
We shall transfer to
Shillong, the former capital of Assam and the present capital
of the state of Meghalaya. Enroute we shall visit the massive
Barapani Lake near Shillong. On arrival we check in at Tripura
Castle/Rosaville.
Day
08:Shillong-Cherrapunjee(90 minutes)-Shillong:
We shall take up an
excursion to Cherrapunjee, the wettest place on earth. At
Cherrapunjee we shall visit the magnificent waterfalls-Nohkalikai
& Mawsmai, the cave of Mawsmai which is one of the 100 odd
limestone caves in Meghalaya. We shall also have an
opportunity to have a look at the flat Bangladesh land from
Cherrapunjee. On our way back to Shillong we shall visit
Elephant falls & Shillong Peak near Shillong. Overnight at
Tripura Castle/Rosaville.
Day
09:Shillong-Guwahati(03 hr):
Half day at Shillong.
Later after lunch transfer to Guwahati. On the way to the
hotel visit Guwahati Tea Auction Centre, the largest CTC tea
auction centre in the world. Overnight at hotel Dynasty or
Brahmaputra Ashok.
Day 10:Guwahati
Airport:
Starting early in the
morning half day at Guwahati visiting temples belonging to the
medieval period and the Assam State Museum to have a glimpse
of Assam's past. We shall be back to hotel for lunch and check
out. On the way to the airport to catch your afternoon flight
we shall visit Assam Government Emporium if you are interested
in taking some mementos from Assam's rich handloom and
handicraft products.
